I believe DS was intended to be a single player experience, and that's why the multiplayer elements have traditionally been poorly performing and unreliable. ![]() Nevertheless, the pvp is extremely bad in DS compared to any online game with dedicated pvp, and so is the co-op (although the co-op is intentionally bad.) While the pve is still mostly fine (but growing ever more dated), players who eschew the multiplayer entirely are still stuck looking at confusing items and covenants that they don't know what to do with, and miss out on achievements as well. I feel like the pvp element in DS was just an after thought that got tacked on to make the game harder and less predictable, but players latched onto it to extend the life of the game.
